About Us

Steve Tornovish is the owner of Krav Maga – Nantucket and is a Phase B certified instructor. Steve is also a Level 1, 3 and 4 Krav Maga Force Training instructor, which allows him to teach this reality-based self defense system to his fellow police officers. Steve’s favorite part of Krav Maga is instructing the km-X program, which is the Krav Maga program for children ages 5 to 15. Steve recently became a certified CrossFit instructor as well. When not at the Krav Maga studio, Steve is a detective with the Nantucket Police Department. Steve and his wife, Beth, have two daughters, ages 10 and 7. Steve’s main priority, aside from his family, is to help keep his fellow Nantucket Islanders safe and healthy.

Stacey Moran is a true native of Nantucket with deep roots here. Stacey’s main focus is body sculpting/toning classes and Krav Cardio Fitness. Stacey is also certified to teach CardioBells. For Stacey, the most enjoyable part of being involved with KMN/RMA is working with people and seeing their enthusiasm as they become more fit. In addition to the fitness part of her life, she has worked for 16 years as a bookkeeper and devotes a large part of her time to Girl Scouts and Nantucket Youth Hockey. Stacey and her husband, Jack, were married in 1991 and share their lives with their three wonderful children.

Jamie Ryan Cook is originally from Cape Ann, MA and has resided on Nantucket with his wife Mel since 2002. Jamie has been training in Krav Maga since the fall of 2004 and passed Phase A of the Krav Maga Instructor Training Program in June 2006. In addition to being an instructor for Krav Maga, he teaches kettlebell classes and is a director at Nantucket Cottage Hospital. Jamie’s most important role is being Jensen’s dad.

Jules Embry-Pelrine was born and raised on Nantucket where he started Tae Kwon Do at an early age. He is a first degree TKD black belt. Jules is a km-X instructor, helping children to learn the benefits of Krav Maga. He also teaches various Krav Cardio Fitness classes and kettlebells. Jules is a Phase B Krav Maga instructor.

Beth Tornovish is the wife of Steve Tornovish and owner of KMN/RMA. She’s a washashore from Newport, RI who has adjusted well to life on this island without bridges. In addition to working as a licensed dietician in a local doctor’s office, Beth can often be found in our office, making sure everything is running smoothly. Beth is a dedicated long-distance runner, having completed more than a dozen marathons! She loves CrossFit, particularly when posting better times than her husband!

Carla Bettelheim hails originally from Waimana, Bay of Plenty on the North Island of New Zealand and has lived on Nantucket for the past ten years. Carla’s main focus is CardioBells, Krav Cardio Fitness and personal training. Carla is a certified instructor in kettlebells and a certified AFTA group instructor. She believes that correct form and a positive workout environment will foster functionality, speed, power and a great workout for both the mind and the body, which is what KMN/RMA is all about.
